Named art historian of the American embassy in Rome and official Guide of Rome, Enrico Bruschini is an Italian historian, art expert, professor, author, and passionate storyteller. Until his retirement from the embassy in 1998, he served as its fine art curator. He is the author, most recently, of The Vatican: Masterpieces, the official guidebook of the Vatican. He lives in Rome.

Much better than a tour!

I am so glad I started reading this book a few months before our trip to Rome. Although I have never been much of a "Art History Enthusiast," this resource will make your visit to the Vatican Museum more meaningful. Even if you don't plan to visit the VM anytime soon, it's a great resource for those who want art and history to co-mingle and come alive!

Having been to both the Vatican museum and St. Peter's Basilica this book clarified what saw with in history that was not provided by the tour guide. Encourage those traveling to Roome and Vatican City to read it before you go. In fact take it with you.
